$451 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Claimed by 20-Year-Old Florida Man
Lottery officials confirmed on Friday that 20-year-old Shane Missler of Port Richey, Florida claimed the winning $451 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot. The newly-wealthy gentleman opted to receive a one-time payment of almost $282 million.
Missler had a ticket with all five winning numbers and a “Mega Ball” number that was drawn on January 5. Missler’s ticket was the only one in the nationwide lottery that was a perfect match, which made him the winner of the entire jackpot.

Florida sells single BIG winning ticket in $450 Million Mega Millions jackpot!
A single Mega Millions jackpot ticket sold in Florida just made for one spectacular New Year! “The retailer will receive a $100,000 bonus commission for selling the jackpot-winning ticket,” the Florida Lottery said in a news release early on Saturday morning.
Here’s what we know: Lottery officials announced Saturday morning that only one ticket matched all of the winning numbers of 28,30,39,59,70 and the Mega Ball of 10. The ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven Store in one unsuspecting town in Florida. The staggering amount, which is the forth largest in history, goes to one yet unidentified winner.
Reports confirm that the convenience store in the west-central Florida city of Port Richey, located on Ridge Road, sold the winning Quick Pick ticket.
A total of eight Match 5 winning tickets were sold ahead of Friday’s drawing – one each in the states of California, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Virginia, and two each in the states of Oklahoma and Texas.
In total, more than 21 million tickets were sold for all the prizes.
The winner has the option taking a $450 million annuity over 29 years, or a lump-sum payment of $281 million, according to lottery officials.
In a statement, Mega Millions lead director and Maryland Lottery and gaming director Gordon Medenica said, “Congratulations to Florida on their big jackpot win.”
The year has started off on an extremely high note for the lotteries. Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is expected to be at least $570 million.
Good luck, everyone!
The Mega Millions jackpot reset to its new starting value of a mere $40 million ($25 million cash) for their next drawing on Tuesday.
