A seventh-grade student at Jackson Memorial Middle School in Jackson Township, Ohio allegedly brought a gun to school Tuesday morning and shot himself in the boys bathroom. The child was transported to an area hospital where there is no information on his condition.
All schools in the township in Stark County were placed on lockdown. The four elementary school were closed and the high school is in process of evacuation.
Officials say that the event happened just before 8 a.m. and there does not appear to be anyone else injured. Backpacks and lockers are being searched before students are released to their parents.
The student was found inside the bathroom by individuals at the school. It is unclear if any other students were in the bathroom at the time of the shooting.
Officials say they are working with the school and law enforcement to discover how the gun was able to get on campus.
The news comes less than one week after the unbelievably tragic loss of 17 lives in the mass school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
