Boca Raton man fatally shot while driving on I-95 Wednesday morning, all lanes re-opened

I-95 Boca Raton Shooting

A construction crew heard a crash then discovered an injured driver on I-95 near the Yamato Road exit around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Florida Highway Patrol officers arrived and responders transported the man who was driving the late model, dark-colored sports car on Interstate 95 to Delray Medical Center, but the man did not survive.

Authorities closed the southbound lanes of I-95 between Linton Boulevard and Yamato Road as they searched for shell casings and other insights in their investigation of the deadly shooting.

Police say the victim was shot while in the vehicle, but can not say where or when the shooting occurred. They have identified the victim, but will not release his information until his family has been notified. They have listed the man as a Boca Raton resident.

The lanes shutdown created lengthy backups during the morning commute as drivers were urged to seek alternate routes. All lanes of 1-95 were reopened before 9 a.m.

Police are asking that anyone with information about this case call Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County at 800-458-8477.

We will continue to follow and update this story.
