Breast Cancer Awareness

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Events throughout South Florida are joining forces to support research and advancement in the fight against the disease.

Here is a list of some of the events happening in our region:

Go Pink Luncheon. Oct. 13. Joan Lunden, noted journalist and breast cancer survivor, will be the keynote speaker at the 14th annual luncheon. $175. 11 a.m at Boca Raton Resort & Club Camino Real, 501 E. Camino Real, Boca Raton. 561-955-4142, or

Glam Doll Strut. Oct. 14. A participant fashion show in Fort Lauderdale. Raising funds for local under-insured women undergoing breast cancer treatment and therapy through the Broward Health Foundation. $55 per person. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Esplanade Park, 400 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale.

22nd Annual Susan G. Komen Miami/Fort Lauderdale Race for the Cure. Oct. 14. Survivor procession, timed run and untimed walk/run,one-mile fun run, tot run for ages 2-7 and more. Prices vary, please see website. 6 a.m.-noon. Bayfront Park, 301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami.
