David Cassidy, 67, perhaps most well known for his role as Keith Partridge on the popular 1970’s family comedy, The Partridge Family, has died. A longtime resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Cassidy passed away in the South Florida city he knew and loved.
The cause of death was organ failure. Cassidy had been hosiptalized in intensive care since last week with liver and kidney failure.
In February, the former teen heartthrob revealed he was suffering from dementia. Cassidy, who watched his own mother suffer and die from the same disease, stated in an interview with Dr. Phil that he did not want his life to end in the same way.
Friends and family rushed to be at the side of the beloved entertainer. His family issued a statement which read in part,
“David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.”
Cassidy is survived by his adult children, son Beau; daughter Katie; brothers Shaun, Ryan and Patrick; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. David Cassidy’s step-mother is Shirley Jones.
