Evelyn Ramona Price, 53, of Deerfield Beach, pleaded guilty to bribery of a public official. She now faces Federal Prison time.
The former U.S. postal worker who operated a route in Boca Raton, lost her job and has admitted to taking bribes in exchange for delivering drug packages.
Investigators say that Price told them that she met a man in 2016 who asked her to secure addresses along her route where packages could be sent. She provided the addresses and the two agreed to a location where the packages could later be exchanged. Price said she was paid $50 per package.
According to reports, the re-directing of packages went on for about five months last year.
The packages had return addresses from Florida or New York, but were postmarked from California. Four seized packages, authorities say, contained more than 20 pounds of marijuana.
Price maintains that she was never told of the packages’ contents, but that she assumed they were some kind of drug. She was questioned about the activity last October and was terminated after admitting the scheme.
Price’s sentence is expected to be in September. If convicted, she could receive a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
