March for Our Lives rally stopping near Mar-a-Lago

March for Our Lives Mar-a-Lago South Florida

Today, more than 800 locations world-wide will hold a March for Our Lives rally designed to take a stand with student activists from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and others asking for increased gun-control laws in the United States. But only the West Palm Beach march will bring protesters closest to President Donald Trump, who is spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.

A million protesters are expected to participate, with one-half of a million to gather on Pennsylvania Avenue, near the White House, an estimated 2,000 are anticipated to protest down Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach on Saturday. The march begins at 2 p.m. with a rally at Dreher Park.

With the West Palm Beach rally’s course taking the marchers in the direction of Mar-a-Lago, it’s possible that the President could see and hear demonstrators, should he venture out to the Trump International Golf Club around the same time.

The 1.3-mile route is facing restrictions due to the Palm Beach International Boat Show, an event that is running through Sunday. The Boat Show is expected to attract thousands of people to downtown West Palm Beach during the time of the march.

In addition, Trump supporters are expected to come out to the area. Police plan to keep supporters to the north side of Southern boulevard to reduce the chances of clashes with marchers, many of whom are expected to be teenage students.

Marchers will head over the Southern Boulevard Bridge and turn south on Flagler Drive, regrouping on the grass near the Intracoastal Waterway seawall. They are scheduled to spend about 30 minutes at the seawall while speaking to the crowd about gun-control, then march back to the Dreher Park location.

There will be bounce houses and food trucks available after the march. Parking is limited, carpooling and shuttles are recommended.
