Mark Wahlberg was blasted when news broke that he was paid a $1.5 million bonus for reshoot work on Ridley Scott’s “All The Money In The World,” while his co-star Michelle Williams made a few thousand for the same work.
In perhaps a genius act of damage control – and generosity – Wahlberg and his agents from WME announced that the actor will donate his entire $1.5 million paycheck to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund. The “Ted” and “Boogie Nights” star went on to announce that he will make the donation in Michelle Williams’ name.
“Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All The Money In The World has become an important topic of conversation. I 100 percent support the fight for fair pay and I’m donating the $1.5M to the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams’ name.”Mark Wahlberg
Wahlberg’s donation may be a huge message that “time’s up” for his own representation – WME. Both Wahlberg and Williams are represented by the same agency, just different agents. With the two actors’ compensation being so dramatically different, the agency appears to fight harder for big-name male action stars than highly acclaimed Oscar-nominated actresses.
In what we’re sure is a purely coincidental act, WME says it is making a donation to Time’s Up too – $500,000.
