The Marvel franchise, “Black Panther” has surpassed the $1 billion mark in the global box office. The movie’s impressive intake makes it one of only 33 films to rake in a ten-digit sum. And it is just getting started since the slick, boundary-breaking superhero machine accomplished the feat in only 26 days!
“Black Panther” is the 16th billion-dollar movie for box office powerhouse Disney, who owns the Marvel franchise. Disney’s other notable mega-money makers are “The Avengers,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Iron Man 3,” and “Captain America: Civil War.”
Statistically, “Black Panther” is adding up to be historical. Forecast to rake-in a $37 million-plus weekend again this week, the haul would make it the No. 2 superhero release of all time, surpassing “The Dark Knight’s” $535 million.
The “Black Panther” debut in China opened with $20 million in its first day.
The film has scored a 97% favorable rating on Rotten Tomatoes, something most movies only dream of. Critics largely agree that this is not just another superhero flick. The movie is considered a “stand alone,” but most believe the “Black Panther” series will build out quickly.
Director Ryan Coogler makes it clear that the film’s superhero is absolutely in control and completely occupying the center-stage spotlight. Moviegoers were first introduced to the title character in Captain America: Civil War. But it is not until you watch “Black Panther” that you finally and fully realize what a modern superhero is.
Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of the featured character is not only believable, but seemingly flawless. The cast is filled with a sky full of break-out stars, each one shining like a beacon in exquisitely cast roles.
Don’t believe the hype? Then check out “Black Panther” for yourself. The movie is now playing at theaters everywhere.
