The NBA is back in a big way! Tonight’s “Sunshine State Showdown” battle between the Miami Heat and Orlando Magic was a show of strength from both sides of the court in the Amway Center.
Going into the game, the Miami Heat had a 1st-game winning streak of six years in a row – the longest active 1st game winning streak in the NBA. The next best record is Toronto with four in a row.
Want another record? The Heat’s season opener against the Magic is the sixth time in franchise history, the most against any opponent.
Tonight, the Magic came to play. The game stayed close in the first half, but saw wider spreads in the second half with Orlando enjoying the lead.
The Heat had Josh Richardson and Kelly Olynyk in the starting lineup, but they could not keep it together against the Magic-al combo of Aaron Gordon, D.J. Augustin, Bismack Biyombo, Mario Hezonja, Terrence Ross, and Nikola Vucevic.
Late in the four quarter, Miami fans got charged up as their team narrowed Orlando’s lead to just four points. Then, with 30 seconds left on the clock, the Magic pulled ahead by 7 and left the crowd knowing how this game would wrap.
Final score: Miami – 109 Orlando – 116
