The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a shark bite was reported off of Lake Worth Beach this afternoon.
Shortly before 2 p.m. today, sheriff’s deputies and a fire rescue team responded to a call regarding an injured male surfer.
Lake Worth lifeguards first attended to the surfer who was out of the water when rescuers arrived. The victim reportedly had an upper extremity injury and was transported to an area hospital.
The man’s injuries are said to be minor. There is no word as to what type of shark bit the surfer, although spectators believe that it was a bull shark, about 4-5 feet in length.
Both the victim, who was not identified, and witnesses stated that the shark had been involved with a school of bait fish when it mistakenly bit the surfer’s arm.
No additional information was available at the time of release.
