Although she is now based in London, fashion designer Gomez-Gracia grew up in Miami and recognizes the influence her Floridian roots have on her designs.
In a recent interview, the artist had this to say about her new collection,
“Miami is primarily about showing off your curves, whilst oozing sex appeal. It’s a hot city and showing skin is the norm. It’s very body- and image-[conscious]. London, is a metropolitan city with all four seasons. You need to dress more practical, and the emphasis is less on being sexy, and more on practicality, but still presenting yourself in a chic and original way. I combine these aspects in the design. I believe women should be comfortable in what they wear, but they should look sexy but in a tasteful way. When life gives you curves, flaunt them.”
Gomez-Gracia says that growing up in Miami made a lasting impression on her. As a teenager in the late 80’s and early 90’s she recalls the Miami club scene, elaborate outfits, and unique styles that still inspire her designs.
This collection exudes confidence, but does not neglect “that sensual and feminine vibe that South Florida is known for.”
Each statement-piece is constructed with incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail. This will be Gomez-Gracia’s first catwalk show in the United States.
The Shuzz Art Fashion show will take place on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, 5550 NW 40th St.
