Two teenage girls were trying to cross the street in hopes of attending a school carnival. The pair apparently darted into traffic; they were not in a crosswalk. Authorities say the girls were struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.
Davie Police announced that last Friday evening, 15-year-old Alicia Cerrato and 14-year-old Andrea De Las Salas sustained critical injuries as they crossed on foot near St. Bonaventure Catholic Church.
The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, stayed at the scene. He is not expected to be charged in the case. Investigators do not believe speed or alcohol was involved.
The case is ongoing and will be updated.
