Senator Al Franken still scheduled to appear at Miami Book Fair this Sunday

Senator Al Franken, has been accused of groping a woman without consent. While many are calling for him to resign from office, the former comedian is still scheduled to appear at Sunday’s Miami Book Fair.

Thursday, Al Franken, was accused by TV host Leeann Tweeden of inappropriate advances including groping and kissing her without her consent.

Franken, who is scheduled to appear November 19 to end the week-long book festival on the campus of Miami Dade College, is anticipated to discuss his newest memoir, “Al Franken, Giant of the Senate.”

The book chronicles Franken’s career from his time on “Saturday Night Live” as a political satirist to his 2009 election as a Minnesota senator.

Tweeden, who is a radio host for KABC Los Angeles, says that Franken made unwanted sexual advances toward her while hey were preparing for a USO tour performance in 2006.

Tweeden’s account of the incident was published Thursday on KABC’s website. She detailed a raunchy sketch written by Franklin that required the two to kiss.

The radio host backed-up the accusations with evidence – a picture of Franken putting  his hands on Tweeden’s breasts while she was sleeping on a cargo plane.

Hours after Tweeden’s accusation, Franken, who has been married to his wife Frannie for 41 years, issued a statement apologizing to the newscaster.

“The first thing I want to do is apologize: to Leeann, to everyone else who was part of that tour, to everyone who has worked for me, to everyone I represent, and to everyone who counts on me to be an ally and supporter and champion of women,” Franken wrote in a statement. “I respect women. I don’t respect men who don’t. And the fact that my own actions have given people a good reason to doubt that makes me feel ashamed.”

Franken’s books include: Rush Limbaugh Is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.

At the time of publishing, Franken is still scheduled to appear as the closing even speaker at the Miami Book Fair on Sunday. Tickets were free, but according to the book fair’s website, are sold out.
