Katherine will personally deliver 500 lbs of Palm Beach County Cares’ food and supplies in an amazing effort to rescue the Vista Serena Nursing Home and Assisted Living facility near San Juan, Puerto Rico. The home has 100 elderly residents and is quickly running out of food.

Great news: The plane will not return empty – it will rescue 4-5 residents departing from TJIG- Domenici Airport in San Juan Saturday afternoon around 4:00 PM.

Here’s the full story about the mission:

When Margarita Nevarez contacted Katherine Waldron and told her about the desperate situation at the Vista Serena Nursing Home and Assisted Living facility, Katherine immediately jumped into action to try to help the residents located just outside of San Juan.

She quickly sent out an email blast asking Palm Beach Cares supporters if they knew of someone who might have a plane to help deliver supplies. Katherine conveyed the dire need of water, food, medical supplies, etc.

“Within minutes I received emails letting me know people were checking on their end to find something,” Katherine says. “Ocean Ridge Councilman Jim Bonfiglio was able to reach out to a friend, Richard Lucibella, who jumped right in and offered to take 500 pounds of much needed supplies over to Puerto Rico for delivery on Saturday morning.”

To top it all off, Suzanne Redmond of Puerto Rico Relief Flight, is lining up several individuals who need to evacuate Puerto Rico. These people will return to Florida on Mr. Lucibella’s plane!

Meanwhile, dedicated volunteers are gathering, sorting, and packing up the 500 pounds of supplies. The team has come together to make this a successful and truly meaningful mission.

Palm Beach County Cares thanks Mr. Richard Lucibella for the generous use of his plane, and the many volunteers helping to make this rescue mission possible.
